Choose: Love, Happiness or Both?
It is rare to find people who make a choice between love and happiness but there are times when it does happen.
A friend of mine was recently confronted with the choice of having to move home – no easy feat when ‘home’ is on the other side of the world – to become a full-time carer for her ailing father or risk missing out on quality time with someone she loved.
Not long before her father, although young, had been diagnosed with Alzheimer Dementia – an illness that affects roughly forty-four million people worldwide. Just before she bought her tickets, an email came through asking her what she thought about a trip with her dad in Italy…
It was a place he always wanted to go and as she was living there it seemed like the perfect time to visit.
She weighed her options. A trip with someone that ill could only be challenging, plus the doctors didn’t recommend overseas travel for someone with his condition, and on it went. After much toing and throwing, the family finally decided to go on tour in Italy with dad or what he described as the ‘trip of a lifetime’.
The reasoning being that so long as he was happy, it was worth taking risks and isn’t that what love is all about?
